Full NEC completes collective testing at Hockenheim

23/03/12 - The Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Cup kicked off for 2012 with four days of collective testing at Oschersleben and Hockenheim. Whilst Oschersleben worked as a warm up, the big number of 26 Formula Renaults collected at Hockenheim to find the right set up for the first race of the series in 2012, to be held in four weeks at the German Formula One track.

The Northern European Cup is looking at what seems to be a prosperous season. With eleven teams present, a total of 26 entries for the season is guaranteed. These 26 cars are counted without guest appearances of Formula Renault 2.0 EUROCUP teams and drivers.

The NEC sees a large number of teams returning to season. Renowned partners such as Van Amersfoort Racing, MP Manor Motorsport, KTR and SL Formula are among the steady group that form the base of the series. On top, the organization welcomes new teams from other two liter series such as Interwetten.com, Daltec Racing and Krenek Motorsport.

Jakub Smiechowski set the pace in the first few sessions on the sunny but cold track at Oschersleben. Later on, the boys from Interwetten.com Bouveng and Stuvik took over and improved the fastest lap time, until Stuvik finally set the record at 1 minute and 26.077 seconds.

In Hockenheim, the competition was a little more intense. Every session saw a different driver on top of the time sheets, indicating that the level of competition is going to be fierce this season. The track was quickest in the afternoon session, when Jake Dennis put the fastest time to 1 minute and 38.446 seconds
