A record for the second round of NEC at the Nurburgring

18/06/12 - The Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Cup heads for the Nurburgring this upcoming weekend with a record of registrations. Almost 40 cars are expected to race at the famous track in the German Eiffel in the pre-programme of the successful German VLN Endurance series. After a long break, teams and drivers are set for the fourth and fifth race of the 2012 season.

For the occasion, the NEC chose the Adenauer ADAC Rundstrecken Trophy of the VLN organization to visit the world-famous track in the German Eiffel. During this event, the series will drive the so-called Kurzanbinding, in other words: the Grand Prix track with a short cut. After the Mercedes Arena, the drivers take the in field route and cut directly to the Kumho turn.

Jake Dennis took a 12-point lead to Stoffel Vandoorne in the standings after the first three races held at Hockenheim late April. Both drivers divided the victories at the Formula One track and will be eager to continue their pace at the Ring. Meanwhile Jordan King, Jeroen Slaghekke and Leopold Ringbom scored good points in the first round. As they are fully registered to each round of the NEC, they built a solid base for their championship and will be looking forward to add some more to their names this weekend.

As usual, the VLN programme only has tracktime on each Friday and Saturday. As a consequence the schedule for the upcoming event is quite compact. Friday starts as early as 8.00 in the morning with 45 minutes free practice. Both qualifying sessions follow at 10.45. The first race of the event is scheduled at 13.55 that same day, finished off with the second one on Saturday morning at 10.25.
