Double Dutch at Truck Prix in Most

03/09/12 - The Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Cup looks back on a successful weekend at the Truck Prix in Most. Josh Hill signed for the first win on Saturday, whilst Formula Renault rookies Jeroen Slaghekke and Steijn Schothorst took their chances in the second and third race. Both Dutchmen saw their first victory in one of the most popular single series in Europe.

Although the free practices on Friday were washed away by substantial rain, Hill had done good business in the qualifying sessions on Saturday morning. The time of 1:32.633 brought him pole for the first race. Together with leader in the rankings Jake Dennis, he formed the first starting row. However, it was Alessio Picariello for SL Formula Racing who had the best start and demanded second place just after Josh Hill. The young Belgian could not follow the fast pace of Fortec's Hill, resulting in a group of 9 drivers fighting for the second until the tenth position and enabling Hill to built on a progressing gap.

The fight for second place lasted until the twelfth lap, when Picariello could not hold his position anymore and Jake Dennis found an opportunity to get by. Jordan King made use of the moment, also passing Picariello that same lap. Finally, the first race was won with a convincing performance of Josh Hill, leading with almost 9 seconds on the second placed Jake Dennis. Jordan King completed the podium for MP Manor Motorsport.

Jake Dennis started from pole in the second race of the weekend (1:31.992). The race on Sunday morning the second of September started under much better conditions than the days before had offered. A dry track and some sunshine ensured optimal settings.

Dennis managed to keep the lead at the start and through the first corner, but let Hill come by before the first lap had finished. Meanwhile, Van Amersfoort Racing's Jeroen Slaghekke had made a great start, jumping from sixth to third position. Behind him, Jordan King and Gabriel Casagrande followed his pace.

Again, the race saw a deciding moment around the twelfth lap, when Josh Hill retired from his leading position with a technical failure on his car. Just one lap later, Jake Dennis lost a front wing end plate in the same corner, resulting in a considerable loss of speed. Jeroen Slaghekke grabbed the opportunity with both hands and took the lead and did not let go until the flag dropped after 16 laps. A strong performing Gabriel Casagrande for Mark Burdett Motorsport, scoring his second podium this season, followed Slaghekke. Jake Dennis finished in third place, but was penalised with an extra 10 seconds by the stewards for a move on Jordan King. The latter moved up from fourth to third and secured important points for this season's rankings.

The last race on the Czech tarmac started at 15.15 on Sunday afternoon. Leopold Ringbom had settled for pole, managing a sixth place in the first race of the weekend. Steijn Schothorst, fifth in race 1, left from second. Schothorst managed the best start and took control of the race in the first meters. There was no space to sit back and relax for Schothorst, as Picariello was within a second distance for the entire duration of the race.

After 25 minutes, Steijn continued the Dutch success of earlier that day and wrote his first victory in the 2-litre category to his name. Picariello secured second, and Jordan King put down a strong performance for third, finishing top 3 in all races.

Jake Dennis still holds the grip on the seasons rankings with 306 points. The consistent performance of Jordan King this weekend brought him a little closer and now follows with 255. The win of Jeroen Slaghekke brought him to 4th place in the overall standings, whilst Steijn jumped to a 6th position with a score of 157 so far.

The next round of the Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Cup takes place at the racetrack of Zandvoort, the Netherlands during the Trophy of the Dunes on 21, 22 and 23 of September 2012.
