NEC gets closer to a title decision at Zandvoort

17/09/12 - The Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Cup visits the Netherlands for the last time this season. The Trophy of the Dunes forms the seventh round of the 2012 series and sees almost 30 competitors registered to compete in the three scheduled races. If Jake Dennis manages to gather a 60-point lead toward Jordan King, the title could well be decided between the Dutch dunes.

A driver collects 30 points for each win, leaving a total of 90 to be divided this weekend.

Dennis for Fortec Motorsport now has a 51-point lead to Jordan King of Manor MP Motorsport. As the latter is a Dutch based team, they might well bring the necessary experience that makes Jordan King a podium candidate for the weekend. Not to forget about Steijn Schothorst and Meindert van Buuren Jr, who have also shown their pace in the course of the season.

The NEC is one of the main attractions of the annual Trophy of the Dunes at Circuit Park Zandvoort. The programme is filled with the most impressive series in Dutch motorsport, like the Dutch GT4, the Dutch Clio Cup and the Super Car Challenge. With 28 cars on the grid, the NEC currently is one of the most popular singleseater series in Europe, and at home during this A list event at Zandvoort. Aside of the competition on track, NEC will also have to offer some novelties on paddock. Renault Sport will present the Formula Renault 2.0 with the 2013 update on the NEC paddock, in order for teams and audience to get acquainted with the new Tatuus chassis.

The weekend officially starts on Friday afternoon with the qualifying sessions at 17.10 and 17.30. Race one is scheduled for Saturday morning at 10.10 and followed by the second one at 15.50. Race three will be held at prime time on Sunday afternoon at 13.10.
