An Italian first for NEC’s last round of 2011

19/09/11 - A premiere for the Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Cup during the last event of the international 2011 calendar. For the first time ever, the series will race at the world famous Grand Prix track of Monza. With twenty-four drivers registered, the upcoming weekend of 23 – 25 September promises a lot for the last three races of this year.

After Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands and Czech Republic, the NEC joins the AvD for the final event in Italy. Although the title has been given away during the last event in Most, plenty of action is expected for the second and third place in the championship. Finally, not only the first one wins, but the first three drivers of the Northern European Cup are awarded with a test in the Formula Renault 3.5 World Series car planned for the beginning of November.

KEO Racing and Daltec, both with two drivers, join the permanent teams of the Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Cup such as SL Formula, Van Amersfoort Racing, KTR, Koiranen Brothers, MP Motorsport and Inter Europol Competition. With a total of 24 registered drivers, the organisation of the championship can look back on a very successful season, always having over 20 cars on each starting grid.

This event at Monza is one of the four selected tracks that will host three races per weekend. The event starts on Friday afternoon with the first free practices at 14.10 and 17.20. Another free practice follows on Saturday morning at 9.30. The two qualifying sessions start at 13.35 and determine the starting grids of the first two races. Race 1 is set for 18.00 on Saturday evening; it’s result providing the starting grid of the third race, reversing the first six drivers on the grid. Race two and three take place on Sunday the 25th of September at 12.25 and 17.15.

The podium ceremony of 2011 follows directly after the last race on Sunday evening, taking place on the spectacular podium of the Italian Formula One track.
