Fortec scores double win on home track

03/06/13 - Matt Parry (Fortec Motorsport) has won the sixth and seventh race of the Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Cup. Teammate Jack Aitken proved best of the rest and took two second places during the Blanc Pain Endurance weekend at Silverstone. Dennis Olsen (Josef Kaufman Racing) and Nicolas Jamin (ART Junior Team) scored their first podium places of the season, significantly increasing their rankings in the championship.

The qualifying sessions fell victim to Jack Aitken who earned pole on both starting grids for the weekend. For both races, Parry ensured a Fortec lock out and completed the first row. Behind them, there was a very strong performance of Raoul Owens for Mark Burdett Motorsport and Julio Moreno for JTR.

The premiere of the Northern European Cup had a troubled start. Just after the lights switched off, Spanish Fran Rueda, Polish Jakub Smiechowski and Austrian Corinna Kamper crashed in the first few meters after leaving the grid. Smiechowski stranded along the pit wall, resulting in a safety car situation. After all cars were removed from track, the green light for the restart was given after four laps.

Parry and Aitken took off together, straight away building a gap towards the other competitors. Son of ex Formula One driver Louis Deletraz and Ryan Tveter had an on-going battle for ninth place, whilst Dennis Olsen defended his third place to keep Raoul Owens away from his first podium. The last one received a drive through penalty for a jump start and had to retire from his fight for third place.

The Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Cup drove the weekend without its usual EUROCUP guest drivers, who were featuring in the World Series by Renault at Spa Francorchamps this same weekend. The field of 23 drivers at Silverstone are all fully registered to the 2013 season, enabling them to reinforce their position in the standings this weekend.

The second race took of on Sunday morning, the second of June. Although Jack Aitken left from pole, it did not take long before Matt Parry took the lead. Aitken and Parry where the only ones pulling off laptimes under 2 minutes. Nicolas Jamin followed in third place, finally securing his first podium.

Parry took his fourth consecutive victory in a row. By doing so, he increased his lead in the standings to 177 points. Second and third are EUROCUP guest drivers Ocon and Pakari. His first opponent for the season title is Aitken with 89 points. The Norwegian Olsen takes a third place in the current standings for the Northern European Cup.

The following round of the Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Cup takes place on the world famous track of Spa Francorchamps, during the 24 hours race on the 27th and 28th of July.
