30/07/13 - The Formula Renault 2.0 NEC is getting ready for the first Dutch round in the 2013 calendar. The strong grid is among the main attractions of the Gamma Racing Day this upcoming weekend in Assen.

The Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Cup will be a part of the Gamma Racing Day, the largest event for combined motorbikes and cars in the Netherlands. About 60.000 people are expected to attend the racetrack predominantly known for the world famous TT of Assen. Next to Formula Renault 2.0, the smaller Formula Renault 1.6 will also be running this weekend. Together representing the most important steppingstones for Formula racing in the North European region.

Dutch fans may settle their hope on Steijn Schothorst for Josef Kaufmann Racing, who already scored podium in the 2013 EUROCUP season of Formula Renault 2.0. Meanwhile, Matt Parry has the lead in the current standings with a serious advantage of 123 points. Behind Parry, British Jack Aitken and Norwegian Dennis Olsen are in a tight battle for second place with only two points difference.

The NEC 2.0 program starts early on Friday with the first free practice at 9.40. The second session is planned at 13.30. Both qualifying sessions take place that same day at 16.30. The first race follows on Saturday afternoon at 14.00. The second race takes place directly after the Red Bull Formula One demonstration by David Coulthard at 13.25.
