The season has started for the FR2.0 NEC

06/04/14 - Last week the real work started for the Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Cup (NEC) teams and drivers as the first testdays of the year took place at Hockenheim (Germany) and Assen (Holland). The weather was good on those four days and the teams had plenty of time to set up the cars and the drivers had many hours on track.

This year the drivers competing in the NEC are from many different countries; Canada, Australia, England, Mexico, Holland, Croatia, France, Ukraine, Japan, Switzerland, South Africa and many others. It shows that the FR2.0 NEC serie is not only a popular series in Europe.

Mick de Haas of MdH Communications, promotor of the series, says: “We are looking at between 25 to 30 cars for the full season and many teams will join for one or more races. We are very happy with this. The FR2.0 NEC is in it’s ninth year and we keep improving the serie every year.”

This year compared to 2013, more track time has been added. The test sessions  during the weekend are now 45 instead of 30 minutes and qualifying is now two 20 minute periods instead of two 15 minute periods. All in all there are 40 minutes per race weekend more than last year.

Out of the seven race weekends five are at GP tracks, giving the drivers invaluable experience for the future.
This year the NEC serie joins the BlancPain for four race weekends at the GP tracks of Monza, Silverstone, Spa-Fracorchamps and the Nürburgring.

Also new this year is that these four BlancPain races will be broadcasted live on the NEC’s own YouTube channel. More footage will be added here throughout the season.

Monza (Italy) will be the first race weekend this season and is on 11 -13 April.
