Morris and Fortec Motorsports, a home win

25/05/14 -

In the second race of the Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Cup at Silverstone (UK) it was the English driver Seb Morris (Fortec Motorsports) who took his first win.

Callan O’Keefe (ART Junior Team) stood for the first time on the podium in second place, while Steijn Schothorst (Manor MP Motorsport) finished third and is now leading the championship.

Contrary to the condition of Saturday, the Formula 1 track of Silverstone was completely dry and even the sun was shining (a bit). The start from polesitter Seb Morris was not fantastic and he had to defend his place from his teammate Ben Barnicoat. They were both followed closely by Callan O’Keeffe and Louis Delétraz (Josef Kaufmann Racing). Delétraz retired with technical problems in lap 9.

Levin Amweg (ART Junior Team), the winner of Race 1, started from 13th and collided with Gustav Malja (Josef Kaufmann Racing), fourth on Saturday, on their first lap. Both did not finish the race.

Ben Barnicoat defended his second place against Callan O’Keeffe. In this fight Barnicoat cut his right rear tyre but after a pitstop still managed to climb back to place 18. During the rest of the race it was Callan O’Keeffe putting pressure on Seb Morris, but he could not overtake. Seb Morris, last year’s vice champion in the British Formula 4, celebrated his first win in the Formula Renault 2.0 NEC.

Matthew Graham (AVF) set his best results so far with a fourth place. Jake Hughes, third in race 1, finished fifth in front of Ryan Tveter (Josef Kaufmann Racing) and Ukyo Sasahara (Euronova Racing).

The Swedish driver Robin Hansson driving for the new Team Fragus BR Motorsport, finished a very good eights place. The Austran Stefan Riener (Speedfish-Racing) was ninth in front of Jorge Cevallos (Fortec Motorsports).

The first nine places were taken by nine different teams.

In three weeks time (13 – 15 June) the Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Cup have the Hockenheim ring is its the programme with three races.

Seb Morris (# 31 Fortec Motorsports) "I had a fairly average start but I stuck to my racing line and was hitting most of the marks on track. I think I handled the pressure well from Callan O'Keeffe who was driving about the same speed as I did. I made a few little mistakes but I learn from them. I do not want to make them again. Very happy to be on the highest step on the podium."

Callan O‘Keeffe (# 36 ART Junior Team): "I am very happy to have my first podium. I had a good qualifying session so I really wanted to do good in the race too. Specially after Monza, where I got no points. I think Silverstone is the best circuit so far. I had a great weekend andam  looking forward to the next already."

Steijn Schothorst (# 11 MP Manor Motorsport): "The qualifying did not go as planned, as I wanted to be in front. So starting from 7th I had to make up many places in the race. I am happy to be third, but I just always want more."
