Usually two races of 25 minutes each are to be completed every weekend. But at the Hockenheimring three races are on the programme. The starting grid for races one and two will be determined in two qualifying sessions of 20 minutes each. The starting grid for the third race is the result of race one, but with the first six cars in reverse order.
After the first two events in Monza and Silverstone it is Steijn Schothorst (#11, MP Manor Motorsport) who leads the championship. Ten points behind him is the Swiss Louis Delétraz (#17, Josef Kaufmann Racing) and with a further five points behind in the standings is Seb Morris (#31, Fortec Motorsports). The British driver was able to win his first victory on home soil at Silverstone in the NEC’s second race weekend. He is followed in the standings by the Japanese driver Ukyo Sasahara (#46 Euronova Racing) and the Swiss Levin Amweg (#35, ART Junior team).
Josef Kaufmann Racing is the only German team in the paddock. Competing for the Polish Inter Europol Competition team, is the only German driver of the NEC, the 17-year-old Max Biedermann from Mannheim.
