Barnicoat sixth winner in six races

15/06/14 - The Brit Ben Barnicoat (Fortec Motorsports) posted his first victory in the second race of the Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Cup at the Hockenheimring on Sunday morning. Leader in the championship Steijn Schothorst (MP Manor Motorsport) extends his lead with a second place. The Swiss Levin Amweg (ART Junior Team) was, Iike yesterday, third again.

At the start Barnicoat held on to his first pole position and led without much difficulty all the way to the finish. Levin Amweg came close to Steyn Schothorst but did not succeed to overtake. Instead, he had to defend himself against his teammate Callan O'Keefe. Seb Morris (Fortec Motorsports) was fifth ahead of Louis Delétraz (Josef Kaufmann Racing), Stefan Riener (Speedfish-Racing), Jake Hughes (Mark Burdett Motorsport) and Saturdays winner Gustav Malja (Josef Kaufmann Racing). In the third race on Sunday afternoon starts Aurélien Panis (ART Junior Team) from pole position.

#33 Ben Barnicoat (Fortec Motorsport): "I had a really good race, my first overall win and my second podium this weekend. In the first two laps I pulled a gap but in the next four or five laps I was a little nervous as Steijn Schothorst came closer and put me under some pressure. But we both made little mistakes but I could stay in front. I had a good pace and did no further silly things. It's great to take the win."

#11 Steijn Schothorst (Manor MP Motorsport): "The start was fine. Barnicoat had a really good start and I was trying to catch him. But behind me Levin was also fast and I had to defend my place. Then I started to focus on the car in front of me and push, but it was just not enough to overtake Barnicoat. I am happy with second place and I am still on the top of the leaderboard."

# 35 Levin Amweg (ART Junior Team): "I did not have the best of starts but could hold on to P3. I tried to stay close to Schothorst but I could not overtake him as he defended his place very well. But I am happy with my P3 finish again. This afternoon I start from 4th and will really try hard to get to P2."

Race three will start today at 14.05 hrs.
