The battle for points continue at Assen for the top three of the Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Cup

30/07/14 - It is so close! Steijn Schothorst (Manor MP Motorsport) inherited the win in race two last weekend at Spa and is now back on top of the leaderboard. And finally has a win to his name. Ben Barnicoat (Fortec Motorsport) is only 13 points behind Schothorst. It had everyting to do with not having a good start for the UK driver in the same second race at Spa. Barnicoat is followed by Louis Delétraz (Josef Kaufmann Racing) with only five points between them. It will be great racing and exciting battles this weekend at Assen during the Gamma Racing Day.

Martin Young, team manager of Fortec Motorsport: “We really hope Barnicoat will score another win. It is such close racing in this championship and he is able to win. Of our four drivers in this championship Seb Morris is also in the top 10. He is very talented and should be able to move up in the championship as well.”

Apart from the leader there is a second Dutch driver in the championship: Roy Geerts, last years winner of the Formula Renault 1.6 NEC Junior. Geerts now races with the AVF team and so far is 18th in the championship.

Roy Geerts # 18: “The season is not really going as I hoped it would be. But I am learning a lot and getting better, so for me the only way is up. I do need more focus on the qualifying in this very competitive championship. I will put everything in my power to move up in the championship this weekend at Assen. Not my home circuit as that is Zandvoort, but I always find something interesting in any circuit. So I am looking forward to race there again.”
