Another leadership change: Delétraz now at the front, top three within four points

03/08/14 - The second race of the Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Cup at the Gamma Racing Day at Assen, saw the three title contenders coming even closer together. Seb Morris (Fortec Motorsports) won the second race, Tveter finished second, Deletraz third (both Josef Kaufmann Racing).

Before a gigantic crowd of 80,000 spectators polesetter Seb Morris initially lost the lead to his teammate Ben Barnicoat, who had a much better start. After two laps Barnicoat, who had taken over the championship lead only yesterday,  had to retire with an engine problem.

In the lead again Seb Morris pulled a gap from the others. The American Ryan Tveter (Josef Kaufmann Racing) stormed from position eight to second place. In third place was his team-mate Louis Delétraz. He fought with Ukyo Sasahara (Euronova Racing) and Alex Albon (KTR). Albon had to give up after a collision with Sasahara and the Japanese could not overtake Delétraz. Yesterday's winner Callan O'Keeffe started from seventh and finished ninth.

With 7.5 seconds on Tveter, Seb Morris took his second win of the season. Ryan Tveter finished second, his first podium in Formula Renault 2.0 NEC. With third place, Louis Delétraz is the new overall leader with exactly one point ahead of Steijn Schothorst (MP Manor Motorsport), who finished seventh. A further three points back is Ben Barnicoat.

The extremely close battle for the lead will continue on the last weekend of August in Most, Czech Republic. There the Formula Renault 2.0 NEC will join the Truck Championship.

1. Seb Morris (Fortec Motorsports): "I had a bad start and then pushed Barnicoat to the limit but had to let him go before the first corner. Sorry for him as his car stopped on the track on lap two. After that I had a good race with a perfect car. I could pull away and just drove good laptimes and got into a rythm. Very happy with today."

2. Ryan Tveter (Josef Kaufmann Racing): "I couldn't be happier. I had a good start from eight and moved up to third. Then I got into a rythm, as Seb was too far ahead from me to overtake, and drove my own race. I am elated to move up in the championship."

3. Louis Deletraz (Josef Kaufmann Racing): "I had a good race, specially after yesterday, which was not a good race for me. I am very happy to be back as the leader of the championship and hope to stay there till the end of the season.
