Alex Albon wins, a race canceled due to the weather

31/08/14 - Due to heavy rain and too much spray on the track, the second Sunday morning race of the Formula Renault 2.0 NEC in Most was postponed to the afternoon. The third race, consequently, had to be canceled. Alex Albon (KTR) won the race and it was his first win in single seaters. A first podium also for Raoul Owens (Mark Burdett Motorsport) who came in second. Third was Seb Morris. Ben Barnicoat (Fortec Motorsports) still leads the championship with twelve points.

Because of the rain the start was behind the safety car. Polesetter Raoul Owens initially held the lead before Jake Hughes, who now drives for the ART Junior Team. But Alex Albon took the lead early on. Behind him and Owens Seb Morris (Fortec Motorsports) raced to a third place before Hughes and Gustav Malja (Josef Kaufmann Racing).

A spin by Stefan Riener (Speedfish-Racing) triggered a safety car period, which lasted until the end of the race.

Leader in the championship and Saturday's winner Ben Barnicoat finished seventh. He leads before the final races on the Nürburgring in three weeks with twelve points ahead of Louis Delétraz (Josef Kaufmann Racing), who finished tenth. A further twelve points behind him is Steyn Schothorst (MP Manor Motorsport), in fourth position.

1 Alex Albon (KTR): "It was a difficult race because of the rain. But it is my first win in a single seater. It has been a tough three years, but now I am happy! I have to thank all those who have supported me. I hope this win brings some momentum and will continue into the next races."

2 Raoul Owens (Mark Burdett Motorsport): "The start was not too bad but I braked too early before turn 1 so I lost a bit of time there. Albon was just very quick and because of the spray he could pull away. We got the qualifying sorted which has been a bit of my problem so I am very happy with my first podium this year".

3 Seb Morris (Fortec Motorsports): "It was my toughest race so far. I am just not used to not seeing anything so it was a bit of a guessing game out there. Because I like racing in the wet I am often in front but today I was off the pace in the beginning but it got better. But happy to be third."

Next race: Nürburgring 19 – 21 September 2014
